Big Changes Ahead: What Pennie Customers Need to Know About 2026 Health Insurance Costs

As a trusted health insurance partner, we want to keep you informed about important developments that could affect your healthcare coverage and monthly costs in the near future.

Pennie, Pennsylvania’s official health insurance marketplace, has announced that many enrollees may experience cost increases in 2026—and we want to make sure you’re prepared.

What’s Happening?

Since 2021, Pennie customers have benefited from enhanced premium tax credits provided through federal legislation. These enhanced credits have made health insurance more affordable for hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians—saving over $600 million annually.

However, unless Congress acts, these enhanced subsidies are set to expire at the end of 2025. This means that:

  • Most Pennie enrollees will see higher monthly premiums starting in January 2026.
  • Households with incomes above approximately $60,000 for individuals or $82,000 for couples may no longer qualify for any premium tax credits at all.
  • While some standard tax credits will still be available, they will be less generous than the enhanced version currently in place.

To be clear: there is no impact on 2025 premiums. Your costs for this year remain the same.

How Will Pennie Communicate With You?

To keep you informed, Pennie will begin sending postcards, emails, text messages, and outbound calls throughout 2025. These communications will explain the changes and help you prepare for Open Enrollment in 2026.

The first batch of postcards is being sent out in May 2025 to enrollees who are currently receiving financial savings. More messages will follow throughout the summer and fall.
